If flash feels confusing, overly technical, or like something everyone else understands except you...you’re not alone.
You’ve just never had it explained in a way that actually makes sense.
Afraid of the Dark is where that changes.
This isn’t a deep dive or a gear-heavy breakdown.
It’s a clear, no-BS introduction to off-camera flash, so you can finally understand what you’re doing and stop relying on “good light” to get the shot.
In 45 minutes, you’ll go from avoiding flash…
to actually knowing how to use it.
One lesson.
Straight through.
No overwhelm.
Just the fundamentals you need to start creating with flash.

I’m Chloe Ramirez, a California based photographer and educator.
For a long time, I avoided flash.
Not because I didn’t care about lighting.
But because every time I tried to learn it, it felt overly complicated. Like there was this gap between what people were saying and what I actually needed to understand to use it.
So I stayed in natural light. I worked around it. I made it work.
Until I couldn’t anymore.
There were moments where the light wasn’t good, the location didn’t cooperate, or I had an idea in my head that natural light alone couldn’t create. And that was the shift. I realized I didn’t just want to work with light… I wanted control over it.
When flash finally clicked for me, it changed everything. Not just technically, but creatively. I stopped waiting for the “right” light and started building it.
Now, I teach lighting in a way that actually makes sense. Not overly technical. Not overwhelming. Just clear, usable, and grounded in how photographers really shoot.
This class is the version of what I wish I had when I was starting.
Because once you understand it, everything opens up.
